James Welling

James Welling, born in 1951 and raised in Hartford, Connecticut, employs a variety of photography techniques to create his images. He experiments with shutterless cameras, polaroids, large format view cameras, and digital techniques, to create artwork that tests the boundaries of photography technically and conceptually. The above images are from his "Glass House" series from 2006, which was commissioned by New York Magazine for an article about Phillip Johnson. They were created by using a variety of color filters and manipulated plexiglass in order to create the effects seen in the photographs.
